Statement by the Geneva Institute for Human Rights on the occasion of Nelson Mandela International Day

On this day in 1918 in the region of Mavizo, South Africa, the late African leader Nelson Mandela was born. In November 2009, the United Nations General Assembly on July 18 proclaimed Nelson Mandela’s World Day in recognition of his contributions to the culture of peace, freedom, human rights and the fight against racial discrimination , Mandela spent most of his life in the service of these meanings, and paid for the exorbitant price of trials, chases and arrests that lasted several years before becoming the first democratically elected president of the South African Free State in 1994.
 In recognition of the contributions of the late deceased and his busy schedule of giving and serving others, the Nelson Mandela Fund calls on everyone in this world to dedicate 67 minutes of his time on this day to help …
